There are legitimate opportunities out there for doing paid surveys over the internet, and many people find that they can make a nice amount of extra money every month doing just that. But like other online opportunities, there are many scams out there, too, and unscrupulous people may try to take advantage of you and of your need for income. In many cases, the things they have to gain from these scams are money and personal information. 

If you decide to explore making income from doing paid surveys, here are a few tips for avoiding the scams.

• Don’t believe the hype. Many paid survey ads claim that you can make hundreds of dollars a day doing paid surveys, if you can just get connected to the right people. This never happens. Paid survey work can be lucrative, but not at those levels. Remember, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. 
• Don’t pay them; make them pay you. You shouldn’t have to pay to receive a list of survey companies or links to people who are hiring. Companies do use these surveys to obtain valuable marketing information, so make sure they are paying you for it.
• Just because it’s not cash doesn’t mean you don’t want it. Some sites pay in rewards rather than cash. These aren’t scams, and you should consider signing up with them. Some of the merchandise you can get is worth the work you do.
• Don’t go it alone. Networks and forums are filled with people willing to share their experiences, good and bad. Let them help you.
