What do the online money making survey websites earn from giving out money to the people?

Survey sites get their revenue from advertiser.
For example 'Advertiser A' pays a survey site $30 for each survey they get people to complete.
Survey site then post this survey for all their qualified members to do it. But they are paid $15 for example.
So they are actually acting as a middle man and getting a cut from it.
So why does advertiser want surveys?
It's for marketing research. They can spend $30,000 on marketing research to better target their audience, knowing what they want and thus, improve their conversion rate and can even get $100,000 back by fine tuning their product and strategy. So it is possible for advertiser to spend big bucks on surveys as they know it can bring them benefits from the participant's valuable opinion.
